What to drink with your festive Smoked Salmon?

20 Dec 2019

The festive season is upon us! As you’d expect, salmon will feature heavily in our family Christmas so I thought it would be fun to spend a little time thinking about what wines we might enjoy with it.

Our BigFish Smoked range has had an award-winning year and we’ll be enjoying plenty of our Smoked Salmon and Smoked Trout over the festive season.  On Christmas Day, we’ll walk the dogs first then have a late breakfast, probably I’ll serve our Signature Oak Smoked Trout with bagels and cream cheese and a nice glass of Bucks Fizz.

If you’re looking for drinks to pair with smoked fish, you need something quite bold, full flavoured and acidic to complement the delicious, rich, oiliness of the fish.  This could be chilled vodka or a dry wine such as a minerally Sauvignon or Sancerre. Fizz is a favourite but It doesn’t have to be Champagne, a delicious sparkling Cava or good quality Prosecco are both lovely, or for something completely different, why not try an English Rosé?

Here are a few recommendations:

Prosecco Conegliano Prosecco, Taste the Difference 75cl (10.5%) £8.00, Sainsbury’s

Prosecco Santa Margherita Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Brut 75cl (11.5%) £15.99, Ocado

Sparkling Rose Irresistible Eight Acres English Sparkling Rose 75cl (11.5%) £18  Co-Op

Sauvignon Blanc Villa Maria Private Bin New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc 75cl (13%) £9.75 Morrisons

Non-alcoholic Try this zesty Freixenet Alcohol Free Sparkling from Spain, 75cl (0.0%) from Tesco

Have a wonderful Christmas!
