Joining the Ocean Disclosure Project

3 Dec 2019

We have joined the Ocean Disclosure Project (ODP)- becoming the first seafood supplier in the UK to volunatarily disclose the origins of all our fish.

If you are interested in finding out more abou the salmon and trout we use for BigFish, you can now consult our ODP profile, which contains information on where our fish comes from, as well as information on country of origin, sustainability certification and environmental impact,

The Ocean Disclosure Project (ODP) is a global platform for voluntary disclosure of seafood sourcing. It was launched in 2015 by the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, a US-registered non-profit that works directly with the seafood industry to deliver sustainable seafood.

Jack Coulbeck, commercial manager for JCS Fish and BigFish says, “We are delighted to share our sourcing data through the ODP. People are increasingly interested in the provenance of their food and we believe transparency is vital to ensure our customers can rely on us for responsibly-sourced fish. We already use only GlobalG.A.P. (GGN) certified salmon for BigFish and across our whole business we expect to reach 100% certified sourcing within the next 6 months.”

Tania Woodcock, project manager for the Ocean Disclosure Project, said: “We are pleased to welcome JCS Fish to the Ocean Disclosure Project as the first seafood supplier to disclose its farmed sources. The company’s commitment to responsibly farmed seafood is clear from its profile, which highlights the high proportion of farmed seafood sourced from farms certified to a recognized standard.”
